Macine Kauter Band are giving it away... Little Joe never once gave it away; everybody had to pay and pay. But the Maxine Kauter Band think that release should not cost a cent and so we are presenting our new album, Alibech the Hermit, for free. An album of moody songs that promise to join you on your quest for oblivion whenever you need it, on us. No hustle here, no hustle there required.

The Maxine Kauter Band was formed in Newton Sydney in 2007 by singer and songwriter Maxine Kauter and has been playing under the MKB moniker ever since. In 2008 their first release saw them featured on Triple J Unearthed and enjoying regular radio play on FBI and other indie stations with the song Some Perfect Life appearing in numerous films and becoming an indie favourite. They have graced the stage at some pretty respectable festivals including Peats Ridge, the organisers of which handed them the inaugural Peats Ridge Storm the Ridge award. Now the trio are set to release their first album Alibech the Hermit and they are giving it away, nobody has to pay.

Alibech the Hermit was recorded in Sydney where the three piece (Shannon Haritos on double bass and Stephen Beverley on drums) were holed up hermit-style with a host of instruments, brilliant musicians and quite a bit of nicotine. It is an album about being alone with the things in your head and is heavily influenced by the work of PJ Harvey, Joan as Policewoman and Neko Case. It is a short album made with loving and experimental attention to detail and a self-evident joy in the process of making music itself. We had a great time making this music and we want you to hear it.

On Thursday 17 March the Maxine Kauter Band will extend their ranks and become a six piece band to celebrate the launch of Alibech the Hermit with all the people who helped make it happen including those with willing ears. MKB will be giving away copies of Alibech the Hermit there but you can download it in the mean time at Soundlcoud http://soundcloud.com/maxinekauter/sets/alibech-the-hermit/. We would love to know what people think of it so please let us know at maxinekauterband@gmail.com

If youre fond of dramatic wallowy, literate type music, if listening to Cat Power, Evan Dando and Kristen Hersh convinces you that more wine is always required, then you will certainly have to give the MKB a spin. If nothing else then we suppose it will be worth every cent that you spent.

Alibech the Hermit will be released on Thursday 17 March 2010 at Raval in Wentworth Street Surry Hills with special guests James Edgar Francis and Manger (Zoe Vaughan and Brian Campeau)
