Event Details

Held monthly, In The Round at The Vanguard is inspired by the sessions at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, among many others, where four singer/songwriters get together to play their own songs, each others, maybe some covers - and tell a few stories along the way. Expect a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration with an incredible evening of music across two sets.

The event takes place with a unique set up; artists taking the stage on the floor of the venue, with guests invited to sit around the songwriters as they perform - just like they do at the Bluebird in Nashville!

The 22nd instalment of In The Round at The Vanguard will feature the night's curator Harley Mavis, Joe Mungovan, Georgia Mulligan and Eilidh.

HARLEY MAVIS

Last year’s debut single, ‘No Chance,’ saw the up-and-comer added to the Triple J Unearthed ‘Best New Music’ playlists and added to unearthed radio. The song also received airplay on Triple J’s ‘Home and Hosed,’ and ‘Goodnights.’ The music video for the track debuted with Hhhhappy Magazine, and was aired on MTV Australia. The catchy debut created great success for the Sydney artist, receiving significant media attention, Spotify playlist (Low Key Weekend) and play across FBi, Double J, and more. Harley Mavis returns with the third single ‘Thief’’, a playfully saccharine track with opaque lyricism. Produced by Simon Berkelman of Philadelphia Grand Jury the honest offering is a folk-rock gem, from the Sydney-based rising alt-folk artist the project of Vanda and Young nominated singer-songwriter Hannah Robinson.
Stemming largely from her all-female power-ballad influences, Harley presents a show of stellar songwriting - with heartbreaking lyrics, driving choruses and a unique understanding of her surroundings. Her songs represent everything it means to be young and in your 20s; through inexperienced relationships, moving from a small town to a big city, and beginning to find your feet in this big, bad world.
Unapologetic and intriguing, Harley Mavis’ performances will have you energetic and on your feet just as quickly as slow dancing to her epic ballads. You’ll be hearing a lot more from this atmospheric rocker out of Sydney’s Inner-West - with new music on its way, she is sure to shine."

JOE MUNGOVAN

After crashing his skateboard at the age of 13 Mungovan was left wheelchair-bound and unable to play his drum kit for 4 months. In that time Joe taught himself guitar and unconsciously developed a style that blends indie folk and pop together to produce his unique sound.
Kiama native Joe Mungovan has released his new single ‘Be With You’, the slow builder is the second track from Mungovan in 2019 and is layered with multiple textures and colours.
"I had been living and recording in the bush by myself for a long time when I wrote this song. It came about because I was in such a beautiful place, having a wonderful time and I wanted to share the experience with another human. The natural environment that surrounded me and the sense of solitude I felt inspired me to write this song."
The final touches were added to ‘Be With You’ at Sydney studio One Flight Up with producer Tim Carr (Matt Corby, Urthboy). The track displays a new side of Mungovan’s sonic pallet with the use of ambient strings, lifting synths and syncopated rhythms.
2019 has already seen Mungovan tour around Germany, France and Spain in support of his single ‘Lost Myself’. The track received airplay on both Triple J and Triple J Unearthed radio stations.
Having previously shared the stage with acts such as The Preatures, Lime Cordiale, Cosmo Jarvis, Paul Dempsey and Winterbourne. The authenticity and passion conveyed in his intimate live show is an experience not worth missing!
