Upstairs & Underground: Bears With Guns
This event has passed and sales are now closed
On the 7th of February, Upstairs and Underground is delivering a massive line-up of INDI/FOLK/GYPSY! We will raise the roof on this night soaking up the last bits of summer whilst there is still light. COME ALONG AND SUPPORT THESE ARTISTS WHILE THEY ARE STILL CHEAP AS CHIPS!
Bears With Guns are a hard working band whom have played with the likes of Icehouse, Lepers and Crooks, Castlecomer, Stonefield, and The Delta Riggs - just to name a few. In 2015 they are at the top of their game progressively working on new songs to get you up and dancing.
"The Bears' music is an enthralling mix of blissed-out folk tunes, belted out with a wondrous display of gusto and soul. Taken for a Fool a song that tunnels inside the gut and lingers, resolutely refusing to shift. Far wiser beyond their years, The Bears are fast-becoming a force to be reckoned with."
-- Ed Gibbs, Rolling Stone
Edema Ruh apart of regrowths 10th anniversary festival, Edema Ruh have been the backbone support for international/national touring artists in Australia. Playing massive shows with The Crooked Fiddle Band, Afenginn. They are equipped with the cutlery of a brass and woodwind section, tight rhythm section, manic fiddle player, with Bungle esc vocals. They are a band were second guess dancing doesn't often come by.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Bon Iver, Ben Howard and Tallest Man on Earth ...24 year old Matt Dewar (aka "Direwolf") is a stout product of the undiscovered indie/folk movement
Direwolf has had three releases over the past year and a half,
Goodbye (Single) - 2013
Alone on a Hill (Single) - 2014
Direwolf (Untitled EP) - 2014
These releases have earned him reviews such as:
"I can hear this being a really special song to a lot of people. It's filled with some pretty genuine emotion." - Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J
"His name is true to his music, tragic and wolf like. Full of howls and a lingering sadness" - Sofar Sounds, Sydney
After dusting off some formidable gigs at some of Sydney's best alternative and mainstream venues, Direwolf plans to tour the east coast of Australia on the back of his most recent release.
