Join Underground Lovers this November to celebrate 30 years of their seminal 1992 Guernica / 4AD release, Leaves me Blind.

The album received rave reviews at the time for its shoegaze meets pop sensibility and its distinctive driving guitars and edgy rhythms. It was unlike anything else happening in Australia in 1992 with its eclectic mix of live drums and 808 drum machine, layered guitar sounds juxtaposed with early 80’s synthesizers and classical song structures contrasted with extended psychedelic wig outs and experimental interludes.

The Underground Lovers headline shows at the time were distinctive, with pulsating rhythms, a wall of guitars and a wash of psychedelic visuals. Songs such as Your Eyes would sometimes go for 15 minutes, with the energy and rhythm building throughout. The rumble of Eastside Stories would normally kick off the set, usually mashed with Got off on it to become a 10-minute rave. Promenade was the rock moment of the set with the guitar layers becoming uncontrollable by the end of the song. Juxtaposed to these would be I was right and Holiday, where a ticking drum machine would drive the songs, over which layers of guitars and keyboards would create a wave of momentum.

Underground Lovers travelled to the UK to promote the album in 1993 and played at the legendary 13-year itch event which celebrated 13 years of 4AD records at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.

The band also played some high-profile support slots at the time with the likes of The Cure, Ride, My Bloody Valentine and Lush.

In 2010, music writers and critics John O’Donnell, Toby Creswell and Craig Mathieson named Leaves me Blind as the 54th greatest Australian album in their book 100 Best Australian Albums.

Do not miss this opportunity to see and hear this album in its full glory.

Exclusive Leaves me Blind merchandise will be available to fans at the gigs.
