The Cut N Run Big Band is a brand new big band initiative drawing its players from Australia's most influential jazz conservatory, The Sir Zelman Cowen School Of Music and The Royal Australian Navy Big Band.

Formed in late 2008, The Cut N Run Big Band was originally intended to be a further development program for the Westernport regional band's most promising players. In 2015, musical director Ian Oldstein was invited by arranger and saxophonist Arin Grigg to attend a concert with Kate Cebrano featuring many of Monash's top jazz instrumentalists. Impressed by the level of the orchestra, Oldstein approached Grigg and told him to reform Cut N Run with the players that Arin selected.

The new line up is comprised of some of the top instrumentalists from Australia's most influential jazz conservatory, The Sir Zelman Cowen school of music. The list of players of this group has performed with reads like a who's who of national and international jazz; from players mentored by Gordon Goodwin and his band and performed and recorded with multiple Grammy award winning artists in New York, to recording with some of the biggest names in music in Australia including Paul Grabowskey, Kate Cebrano, Joe Chindamo, James Morrison, Daryl McKenzie, the AAO, Scott Tinkler, Vince Jones, Barney McCall and many others.

Managed by Arin Grig and lead by legendary musical director Ian Oldstein, informing the world-class talent and knowledge base of this level of band has, The Cut N Run Big Band along with performing at the highest possible level, aims to provide jazz education and mentoring to many secondary educational environments. By allowing high schools to attend rehearsals the students can see what can be achieved in a relatively short amount of time from where they are now.
