Neither head nor feet music, PLEASURE CHEST’S self-titled debut album aims somewhere around the upper trunk.

Featuring members of Sydney hardcore and grunge nogoodniks White Dog and Zeahorse, PLEASURE CHEST announce themselves with an LP full of adult themes - songs that turn the grind of maturity into the stuff of life.

Routine becomes refrain. Traffic on General Holmes Drive gets (somehow) triumphant. Raymond J. Bartholomeuz is reborn in big sky dignity. An achy breaky cokey dinner party kitchen comedown gets the full blowout treatment, with a little help from PARTY DOZEN’s Kirsty Tickle on saxophone.

The sound is guitar noise in the Sydney tradition, but with a surprising amount of heart. Even if it’s a bum ticker.

It hurts. It heaves. It feels like the end of the world, but it’s probably indigestion.

PLEASURE CHEST will be supporting the album with a launch in Sydney on March 17, followed by dates in Wollongong and Melbourne, with more to come.
