Mike Kenny Presents
Kenny’s Lab Band - Live Recording
Live performance and recording over two nights. Mike Kenny has taken some well-worn Jazz standards and refreshed them with new harmonies, feels and time signatures as well as adding a few of his own compositions. The two nights will be recorded and filmed for release as an album and live music video in early 2013.
The Personnel for the performance/recording are as follows;
Mike Kenny: Trumpet Flugelhorn
Richard Maegraith: Saxophones, bass clarinet, flute
Jason Morphett: Saxophones
John Harkins: Piano
Brendan Clarke: Double Bass
Jamie Castrisos: Drums
Mike Kenny, Richard Maegraith, Jason Morphett and Jamie Castrisos were all in the RAAF Air Command Band together. During their time in the RAAF they formed 'The Lab Band' as a place to workshop ideas and improvise. The Lab Band played at Jazz festivals and gigs in this capacity for numerous years. In 2008 the RAAF combined Melbourne and Sydney bands to form one band based at Point Cook VIC and the above mentioned went back to being freelance musicians. Now with the help of Pianist John Harkins and bassist Brendan Clarke the Lab Band has re-formed to revisit some of the old music from the RAAF days and to explore some fresh tunes and arrangements as well.
The two nights at Colboune Ave promise to be exciting mix of old and new, tradition and innovation; harking back to old masters while perusing new innovations.
