Secret Sounds return with their monthly club night ‘GroundLevel’ on Thursday 22 February at The Lansdowne, Downstairs. Showcasing the very best local and emerging talent, alongside surprise international guests. The February edition will feature Yasmina Sadiki, Gabriel LCR and DEVAURA.
Yasmina Sadiki
Yasmina Sadiki is a Sydney based, established live performer and independent artist pioneering a fresh look into the possibilities of Jazz and Neo-Soul through her passion for the art. Growing up in Canterbury, over the years she has connected with many producers, artists and musicians from Sydney and beyond. Yasmina has deep love for improvisation and freestyling, she with her live band which alternate between a range of different instruments, creates a seductively magical experience. “Lengthy explorations into jazz, hip hop and soul, intricate and dense. There’s a sense of impending menace that pervades it all and makes it positively cinematic, her music bringing light to the darkest of corners”. Yasmina aspires to challenge the scene with a raw but poetic window into her life. Her insightful lyrical expression and nuanced vocal technique whisking us away into her world, creating something genuine and mesmerising.
Gabriel LCR
Gabriel LCR brings a new perspective to experimental RnB and has inserted himself as a key player in the new generation of AUS music
DEVAURA
Meet Deborah Amenawon, AKA DEVAURA. New Zealand-born, Australian-based artist who broke onto the scene with her well-received, Soulful Pop/R&B debut, Deeper Waters in June 2023. The single; is “a parting gift to the person you had to be in order to preserve”. The single has had continuous support in the UK, via Shell Zenner on Amazing Radio; and local Australian music scene champion, FBI RADIO and Triple J. Since her debut 6 months ago Devaura has gone on to celebrate a victory lap appearance at the Big Sound conference joining Yawdoesitall and Tawanda for their epic collaboration DOOFENSHMIRTZ and opening up for acts like AWA MBAYE. Contrary to the promising future DEVAURA is on pace to set for herself, the journey has been anything but easy for Deborah. First born daughter in a First generation immigrant household, black, queer and a former houseless person, Deborah has lived a life at the intersection of seemingly insurmountable challenges. Despite this, she has managed to maintain a strong sense of self and purpose; affirmed by her love of storytelling, community, and authentic expression, especially in music.
