Three bands launch three albums over one big night.

The past 6 months has seen a constant stream of releases from the beloved and prolific local acts, culminating in a night of shared celebration for the launch of their latest LPs (Osborne Again / Spunk Records).

Snowy Band – the primary project of Melbourne-based musician Liam “Snowy” Halliwell, formed with bandmates Nathalie Pavlovic, Emma Russack, and Dylan Young – returned in 2021 with Alternate Endings, their second full-length album. Their 2020 debut Audio Commentary and it’s quick follow-up both garnered local acclaim as RRR’s albums of the week and PBS Feature Sounds.

Live, the band balances pop sensibilities with a pull toward sprawling improvisation and spare, wrenching simplicity. Snowy Band’s songs can feel searching one moment and decisive the next, never feeling far from either breakthrough or breakdown, but imbued with the hope of seeing either option through.

What began as a friend helping another friend move house, has, over only a few short years, turned into an ongoing musical collaboration. Emma Russack + Lachlan Denton share news of their fourth album titled “Something Is Going to Change Tomorrow, Today. What Will You Do? What Will You Say?”. An album of friendship, love and acceptance, its 11 tracks explore relationships of all kinds.

Recorded with their live band filling out the rhythm section, Emma and Lachlan this time went into the studio with Good Morning’s Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons at the helm of the recording.

Partners, sisters and friends. Partner Look are a Melbourne-based band made up of German sisters Ambrin (Cool Sounds) and Anila Hasnain (Studio Magic), who are joined by their partners Dainis Lacey (Cool Sounds) and Lachlan Denton (The Ocean Party). The members also share a history of friendship and musical bonds. “By The Book” - the band’s debut - is a twelve-track charmer that swoons and smirks with a scrappy, yet sophisticated take on sparkling indie pop.

Partner Look’s music often questions place, belonging and the relationship to ‘home’ in a connected and sometimes disconnected world, focusing on where we differ and where we, as humans, are inherently similar.
