Slama acknowledges that our slam takes place in Naarm, on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, no treaty was signed and it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

NEW SEASON. NEW INTENTIONS.

We are back on our beloved premiere stage at the Brunswick Ballroom.

Slama is a space where we celebrate intersectional community and encourage Artists to bring their absolute best work to the stage.

On April 23rd, after a hugely successful return to the stage in March, we celebrate a much beloved regular to Slama, who has shown up continuously with gusto and grit - leaving us with a feeling of always wanting to hear more.

WHO IS ANTONIO MONTAINE?

Antonio Montaine’s writing focuses on social and political issues through the use of imagery and metaphor. Antonio is the first Australian-born child of immigrant parents and was raised in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Naarm. During his twenties, he served in the Royal Australian Navy at the height of Tony Abbott’s Sovereign Borders campaign. Antonio draws from these experiences for inspiration in his writing. @antoniomontaine

All scores are accumulated throughout the season and the poets with the top scores make it into our Grand Slam. Since 2023 was our first full season back in person and a new TEAM SLAMA was formed. We are declaring 2024 our “off season” so we can nurture the current team’s creative process towards regional and international travel.

In this “off season” we will be focusing on nourishing our community, loving on new to the stage poets and strengthening our processes in preparation for another team based finale in 2025. This is a perfect season for fresh voices and less excuses, so if you’ve been dreaming of standing on the Slama stage and competing, now is it.

This year our Grand Slam will occur in November 2024. Grand Slam Prizes to be announced.
