PAUL DEMPSEY
Shotgun Karaoke

Guests: Merpire

One of Australia’s most beloved singer-songwriters, Paul Dempsey, has announced the return of his notorious Shotgun Karaoke for one night only.

Heading to The Northcote Theatre in Melbourne on Wednesday April 24th, (the night before the Anzac Day public holiday), this hugely popular show is not to be missed. The original Shotgun Karaoke tour, which blitzed the nation a decade ago, was born from a selection of covers performed in various backstage rooms whilst on tour with Something for Kate. The covers were uploaded to youtube each night and went on to form a subsequent album and sold out tour.

While Dempsey has penned many of his own classic tunes as a solo artist and as the front man of Something For Kate, a Shotgun Karaoke show is a chance for Dempsey to explore the song writing of other artists that he admires - performing a full set of cover versions of this album and beyond with just his voice and an acoustic guitar in hand. Tickets for this special show will fly out the door, so get in quick.

Running parallel to his career writing classic tunes like ‘Captain’, ‘Déjà Vu’, ‘Monsters’, ‘Survival Expert’ and ‘Out The Airlock’ as front-man for Something For Kate and as a solo artist, Dempsey has also carved a niche as a master of the cover song. As with his jaw-dropping version of “Edge Of Town” by Middle Kids (which was recently voted in at #31 in triple j’s Hottest 100 of Like A Version),and the iconic "Sweet Nothing" by Florence Welch & Calvin Harris also in the Hottest 100, Dempsey is always finding the delicate balance between tribute and bringing something new to the song.
