Onyx is a hip hop group from New York City was originally formed in 1988 by Fredro Starr Sonsee late Big DS group later added Sticky Fingaz Starr's cousin in 1991 managed by Diamond Cut Entertainment Milton Lynch Formed in 1988, Onyx released their first 12 " single "Oh and we do it this way" in 1990.

The song sounded very jazz influenced much unlike their later work In 1991, Onyx would present a demo to Jam Master Jay at Def Jam, but Big DS and Sone Sez (then only known as Suave) were in Connecticut at the time, so Fredro Starr called Sticky Fingaz his cousin (who lived in Brooklyn) Sticky Fingaz then joined the group in 1992 the group released the Throw Ya Gunz Onyx track EP.
After inked an agreement with Def Jam, and vire promised ett album was 1993's Bacdafucup LP album met with great commercial success, including heavy play time on radio and MTV for the single "Slam". In 2008, Onyx released their debut DVD "Onyx: 15 years of video history and Violence" DVD contains all the Onyx video digitally remastered with optional commentary solo videos and over a timmeav rare movie all the way back from 1992.

A new Onyx album titled The Black Rock was said a 2006/2007release but not the surface Blackrock is now scheduled for a late 2009 or early 2010 release.

At the end of September 2009 members of Onyx expressed his contempt for the Black Keys work BlakRoc.

Since then they have been touring the world, and they are set to come to Australia, for the first time ever, with label mates WDBM, this coming May 2011.
