MOOR MUSIC PRESENTS 'DAWN'

Re-emerging from yet another Melbourne lockdown, Moor Music is back with DAWN - an evening of nu-jazz and visual immersion.

For one night only, Moor Music will transform The Night Cat into a dark and mysterious playground of sorcery. Featuring a curated selection of Melbourne's finest underground musicians and modern-jazz collectives, DAWN will take revellers on an effervescent journey from the darkness of days indoors, into the hazy luminescence of one of Melbourne's most iconic live music venue, shiny and energised and from an aesthetic upgrade.

With two sessions, each featuring an evocative assortment of local live-music talent, DAWN will showcase four eclectic bands making waves in the local and UK nu-jazz scenes.

LINE UP

SESSION A: 8PM-11PM

goodmood (UK)

goodmood is the brainchild of London based, Melbourne born producer and keyboard player Lewis Moody (ZFEX, JK Group). Seeking to find the in-between of House, Broken Beat and Jazz, goodmood draws on improvisational roots and a love of dance music to further the Melbourne Bruk aesthetic within Australia and abroad.

Emma Volard

Emma Volard is a future soul artist whose compositions break the boundaries of soul music by fusing elements of jazz harmony, broken beat and gut-wrenching lyricism to create a cosmic ether of spiritual dance music.

For Emma, it is clear that her music is deeply rooted in seeking justice and storytelling with political, environmental and personal undertones that share her own reality and reflect upon universal truths. Emma’s vulnerable personal lens in the industry shows a sensitivity towards life’s foibles that she believes is “influenced by the presence of her non-verbal severely autistic and epileptic sister Adelaide '' in her upbringing. Through her distinct lyrical expression and incessant groove, Emma hopes to continue to provide a voice for not only her sister but a voice for change in today’s modern diaspora; a voice for those who aren’t heard.

Charles-Eddy Vitry aka Mr Pitiful

With his determination and passion for music, he landed his first residency in 2001 at the era-defining Parisian nightclub: Les Bains Douches.

Charles-Eddy Vitry quickly made a name for himself in Paris. Regularly spinning jazz groove, hip-hop and house and a perplexing ability to mix anything from rock ‘n’ roll to electro; soul to house; acid jazz to minimal tech at Le Rex Club, Le Bataclan. In 2007 he decided to branch out, playing in New York, Montreal and Switzerland, then doing a final shift to Australia, where he has been settling since. Mix, sample, juggle, scratch, cut, produce; Mr Pitiful can do it all, and was quick to establish himself in Melbourne, both in the club and bush doof scenes.

SESSION B: 11.30PM-3.00AM

Uncomfortable Science

Bandleader Lachlan Mitchell (Laneous, Vulture St Tape Gang, Harry James Angus, Jazz Party) directs an ever changing lineup of musicians through an improvised jam with just a whiteboard and a pen, shifting and contorting the foundation of each song in real time with the unpredictable brilliance of a mad scientist. Featuring a rotating cast of familiar names from stalwart projects such as Hiatus Kaiyote, Barney McAll and Sex On Toast, Uncomfortable Science have developed a cult status in the Melbourne music scene, easily understood through witnessing the band in full flight.

Proto Moro

Proto Moro is a Psychedelic Melbourne Jazz outfit comprising of 4 beasts being Harry Leggatt aka Uno Lizard on Guitar, Jack Eden aka Madayana on Bass, Gene du Vergier aka Pearl E. Gates on Drums and Nikodimos aka Nikodimos on Woodwind.
