Event Details

When Laura Marling speaks, Australian audiences listen. When she sings, she holds the room captive with her pure, bright voice and amazing ability to tell narrative stories through her songs. Having given us a tease of what is to come with her all too brief January tour, Marling returns this winter as Secret Sounds proudly announces headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Laura Marling will also perform on the intimate Grant McLennan stage at the sold out Splendour In The Grass.

With her coming of age album I Speak Because I Can, Marling brought a new sophistication and sense of self to her languid anecdotes of quintessential England at times heart-breaking, at times gloriously uplifting.

The album is a triumph, showcasing an important new young artist with much to offer the serious listener
***** The Weekend Australian 2010

Lauras second album followed on from the Mercury-nominated and critically-acclaimed debut Alas I Cannot Swim that she penned when she was just seventeen.

Those that witnessed her January tour will tell of a musician now at ease in the spotlight, intertwining her folk-tinged ballads with mischievous, witty and humourous between song banter, making her audiences fall in love with her just that little bit more.

The young folkies powerful singing voice lends her an otherworldly appeal that seems well beyond her 19 years.
Rave, January 2010

Her lyrics and vocals are much stronger than her pale, slender self, and reveal a more steely disposition.
Brag, February 2010

The set really dazzles when Marling stood along with just her voice and acoustic guitar.
Drum Media, February 2010

Marling is once again joined by Melbourne quartet Boy & Bear, part of whom joined Laura on stage throughout her January tour. Built from the frontmen of three bands, Boy & Bears songwriting has blown away both fans and industry with triple j digging the band from unearthed to high rotation. You can also catch them at Splendour.

First on is Londons up and coming talent Johnny Flynn, who counts supports for Mumford & Sons throughout the UK and Europe as strings to his bow. With his debut album due out in the UK in June, this performance will be one to put on your must-see list.

Laura brings her intimate live experience back to Australia this July with material from both albums, as well as new songs from her forthcoming album to be released later this year. Be sure to get in quick as her all previous tours have sold out in a flash! This will be the first time that Perth and Adelaide audiences will be treated to seeing the songstress in person. Official sideshows go on sale next Friday.
