𝐈𝐒𝐔 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐈 & 𝐌𝐚𝐯 present:
𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐢 𝐑𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐢 / 𝐖𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐮 - 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭. 𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐎 𝐆𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐎

Come join us to celebrate another cycle of the Sun, the NEW YEAR celebration of the natives of Abya Yala (aka Latin America) and beyond. One of the most transcendental celebrations from annual natural cycles, which has roots thousands of years ago (Christmas is one example of it but from the northern hemisphere). It represents the rebirth of the Sun, an opportunity for a new beginning for all life forms. That is why it still is the most sacred ceremony of the Mapuche, Aymara, Quechua, and other ethnic groups from the Andes .

This time we have the honour to host an international artist from Chile, 𝐑𝐨𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐨 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐨. His music pioneered a global ethnic electronic movement that rediscovered ancient ritualistic rhythms and put them on the global electronic map for all of us to dance to.

Alongside Rodrigo, we will have a support act by 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬, a perfect match for the organic, bass-driven and groovy music we have prepared for this celebration.

To complete the lineup we will have two ISU TAKI resident DJs, 𝐂𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐨 & 𝐎𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨, to play some of the most exquisite tunes Latin American ethno-organica/folktronica producers have released in the last few years. Infused with ancient melodies and powerful percussions, including -as usual- some Afro-Latin beats to make you shake it!

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐢 𝐑𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐢 / 𝐖𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐮 - 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭. 𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐎 𝐆𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐎 is proudly presented by ISU TAKI, as part of @mavartsau's NewPrint2 program. NP2 is supported by On The Road Again(@creative_vic), a Victorian Government initiative to bring live music back across the state, and the Australia Council for the Arts(@auscouncilarts).

Artist bios:

𝐑𝐨𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐨 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐨 [𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞 - 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞]

Rodrigo Gallardo is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Chile. He began his journey in music from an early age, next to the charango and the zampoña.

His career includes being one of the founders of the 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐚 group, with whom he developed - for almost ten years - compositions loaded with influences from folklore and electronics. It has several published record productions, which are part of the global organic electronics movement, where collaborations are born with different brothers and colleagues along the route.

The origin of its sonority is in the Andean and Latin American-rooted music, impregnated with the modernity of the samples, electronic beats and deep bass capable of commanding this trip through the song, the reeds, charangos and guitars, along with lyrics that seek collective consciousness and ancestral connection.

𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 (𝟓-𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝)

Their music draws from the intertwining rhythms that are shared amongst latin migrants living and making music in Naarm. With each song, different influences emerge; instruments such as charango (10-string Andean stringed instrument), Quatro (4 string Venezuelan stringed instrument) Alegre (Afro-Colombian Cumbia Drum), Cajon (Afro-Peruvian percussion) are embedded within various electronic landscapes.

SunSeeds lyrics are mainly about our connection with the land, the universe and everything that surrounds us, giving a mindful message about our presence on this planet, appreciation and gratitude, connection with our ancestors, spirituality and awakening, social rights, justice and dignity, love and passion.

𝐂𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐨 (𝐃𝐉 𝐬𝐞𝐭)

Originally from Colombia and now based in Melbourne. Cuerpo Negro is a music selector who started out with the aim of sharing the vibrant rhythms of South American Folktronica in the Southern Hemisphere. Over time, the project has expanded to incorporate a range of world electronica elements, resulting in a sound that is both innovative and eclectic.

Cuerpo Negro's sets are thoughtfully curated to take listeners on a sonic journey, weaving together cosmic melodies, tribal percussion, and hypnotic vocals into a seamless and immersive musical experience. His sets focus on progression, exploration, and experimentation.

𝐎𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨 (𝐃𝐉 𝐬𝐞𝐭)

Otorongo is a music selector originally from Chile but currently based in Naarm (Melbourne). He is known for transporting audiences to pristine ecosystems: tropical floodplains, mountain rainforests, or wherever your imagination feels the most comfortable.

Otorongo's sets are filled with ethnic percussions, nature samples, and exotic instruments, and are driven by ancient rhythms carefully blended to ensure you feel free to dance. Expect from downtempo and deep dembow to eclectic Afrofuturism, passing through ethno organica and tribal tech.

𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐫𝐚 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐮 (𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬)

Wayra Muru is an artistic group formed in 2021 dedicated to sharing folk traditions of the Indigenous communities of the Andean plateau (northern Chile and Argentina, southern Peru, and western Bolivia).

Wayra Muru means seeds of the wind in the Quechua language - seeds dispersed just as we have migrated to Melbourne. By performing these dances here in Naarm, we are bringing the history and tradition of Andean folk cultures to the urban space. Presently, we perform the dances Tinku and Tobas, and are preparing other traditional dances in the future.

𝐈𝐒𝐔 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 (𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧)

ISU TAKI is a collective of Naarm-based Latin-American DJs/promoters that began as a response to the lack of representation of emerging movements of underground dancefloors across Abya Yala (aka Latin America). These movements have in common the vision of re-vindication of the diversity of folkloric and traditional music by incorporating modern electronic beats to traditional melodies. ISU TAKI has been generating a space for new music genres such as folktronica, Andes grooves, Andes step, Afrofuturism, tropical bass, digital cumbia, Afrobeats, and more. As a result, a vibrant community has grown around it, including the installation of the traditional Andean dances troop, Wayra Muru.

ISU TAKI has organised events since 2019 across Naarm, and expanded to actively collaborate with other collectives in NSW and QLD. With residencies in some of the busiest venues in the city, renowned bands and artists have performed at their events.
