GIRL AND GIRL

Girl and Girl are Kai James, his Aunty Liss on drums, longtime friend Jayden Williams on guitar and bassist Fraser Bell. Hailing from Australia’s sun-drenched Gold Coast, the four-piece garage rock outfit has a special kinship that shines through in their music and in their electric live shows — Kai’s magnetism backed by Liss’ 37 years of drumming experience. With undeniable hooks and surprising emotional intensity, this multi-generational outfit leaves everything on the stage.

Named as one of the TheMusic.com.au's 'Top 25 Rising Acts of 2021', Girl and Girl caught a wave in 2022. They landed their first airplay on Australian youth broadcaster triple j with the single ‘Garden Song’ and were playlisted on both 4ZZZ and 2Ser, with support from Tone Deaf, Australian Music Scene, LivewireAU, Blank Street Press, MILKY Magazine and more. Internationally, the band scored early radio play for their single ‘Dance Now’ on US radio station NCPR’s ‘Dean’s List’ program as well as stations in both France and Germany. ‘Dance Now’ also garnered massive support locally from Music Feeds, theMusic, 4ZZZ and triple j Unearthed, as well as appearing on Spotify’s The Local List, Fresh Finds AU & NZ, Indie Arrivals and Local Noise.

After winning the inaugural Gold Coast Music Prize, Girl and Girl became one of the hottest buzz acts at the 2022 Bigsound Music Conference, signing with Sundowner Management (Amyl and The Sniffers), US agency Arrival Artists and UK agency ATC Live. Their sophomore EP, Divorce, is out now.

MERPIRE

Merpire, the moniker of Melbourne-based artist Rhiannon Atkinson-Howatt writes music living somewhere between the rom-com and horror movie sections of her mind. This is evident not only in her music but her videos too. The teenage-bedroom inspired video for her song ‘Dinosaur’ was quickly added to ABC’s Rage - a teenage dream for Merpire.

A year on from co-founding the online streaming festival ISOL-AID as a reaction to the pandemic in 2020, Merpire has just released her debut record, ‘Simulation Ride’, co-produced with James Seymour, via ADA Records - a record about looking for positivity in anxiety. It landed the feature album spot on Double J and SYN radio, winning hearts around the country. Overseas, lead single ‘Brain Cells’ was featured on BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders’ Future Artists, ‘Village’ on NPR and La Blogothèque as well as features in CLASH magazine, NME, Atwood magazine and more. Double J has continued to play three songs from the record every day since its release.

As Merpire goes from strength to strength, so too does her fanbase and their loyalty to her, her music and her live show. Merpire’s captivating and predominantly female band has landed her a slew of Australian festivals (A festival called PANAMA, Brunswick Music Fest and featuring with RAT!hammock at Laneway) and supports with the likes of Julia Jacklin, Paul Dempsey, Angie Mcmahon. With powerful, versatile performances that are an emotional roller coaster to behold, It is no wonder her album launch sold out in a matter of days before having to be postponed due to a 6th lockdown in Melbourne.

POLLYMAN

George Carroll Wilson’s ‘Pollyman’ masterfully referenceS classic rock influences: Bowie, Zeppelin, and Small Faces while still sounding refreshingly local. Pollyman’s overall sound is wildly exhilarating.
