Legendary beatsmith and producer Steve Spacek has announced a one-off headline Sydney performance, going down at Oxford Art Factory on Friday, November 20. Under his Beat Spacek incarnation, he'll be unveiling his brand new mixtape, 'iOS MIXTAPE', loaded with previously unreleased and unheard material.
Back in September, Benji B (BBC Radio 1 / 1Xtra) aired the very special custom-built mix. Simply titled 'iOS MIXTAPE', it features 60 mins of 100% exclusive unreleased beats from the British singer/songwriter/beatmaker produced entirely using apps on iOS. Ninja Tune couldn't miss the opportunity to commemorate the mix with a physical format and a cassette felt like a natural vehicle for Steve's future-heritage aesthetic. There will be very limited quantities of the hand-stamped and numbered cassettes available at the venue on the night.
Earlier in the year, Spacek solidified his rep as a forward thinking artist, unveiling the latest chronical in his unique take on space funk: 'Modern Streets'. The record was showcased in it's entirety during a Boiler Roomsession held in Spacek's now-hometown of Sydney.
'Modern Streets' is the latest chapter in an exhilarating anthology that is Spacek's career. Having collaborated with beat messiah J Dilla, Australia's own Katalyst; Mark Pritchard (to form Africa HiTech) and his own brotherdBridge (Steve's acclaimed "Black Pocket" project was released via dBridge's highly respected Exit Records imprint), Spacek's next move is always a surprise, and never a disappointment.
