Join us for "Double Opa!" at Brunswick Ballroom on Saturday, 27th September, featuring Opa Bato! and Estudiantina of Melbourne. Opa Bato!, Australia's only 'Trubacki Orkestar,' delivers fast, frenetic Balkan brass music from Serbia, Macedonia, and beyond, led by Dushan Mitrovic. Estudiantina of Melbourne blends Greek, Turkish, Jewish, and Armenian influences into a captivating musical journey with instruments like the oud, bouzouki, and violin. This one-night-only event promises a spellbinding fusion of cultures and traditions.
Opa Bato!
Opa Bato! is the only ‘Trubacki Orkestar’ in Australia, performing authentic contemporary Balkan brass music from the rich traditions of Serbia, Macedonia and beyond. Dushan Mitrovic, a composer and performer originally from Serbia/Czech Republic, formed Opa Bato to showcase the unique fusion of European and Oriental conceptions of this music. Opa Bato began in 2009 with a first performance at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne. Performance highlights have included the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, High Vibes Music Festival, Darebin Music Feast and the Antipodes Hellenic Festival. Their music is fast, frenetic and compellingly danceable.
Estudiantina of Melbourne - translates to students of Melbourne .
Originating from Melbourne, this ensemble effortlessly intertwines the rich tapestry of Greece, Turkish, Jewish, and Armenian influences, weaving each performance into a captivating musical journey. With a masterful combination of instruments including the oud, bouzouki, violin, kanun, Accordion and guitar, their performances resonate with spellbinding innovation and timeless allure. Their music is not merely a performance but a bridge that connects generations, cultures, and communities. It serves as a conduit for the diaspora to rediscover their roots, share their stories, and celebrate their heritage with pride.
