Hailing from Oakland, California, Del the Funky Homosapien is a true innovator and legend in the world of underground Hip Hop. TrentSlingshot is proud to announce Dels return to Australian shores, after nearly 20 years of absence!

Dels first introduction to the industry was with his cousin, Ice Cube, as a member of his backing band. After parting ways, Del ventured out as a solo artist, making music that immediately gained attention. Dels music offered a fresh new outlook on an otherwise gangsta-rap-controlled Californian Hip Hop scene. His viewpoint offered a more detached, alternative style, laced with humorous rhymes and funk-infused beats.

After signing to Elektra Records, Del released two critically acclaimed albums, I Wish my Brother George Was Here (1991) and No Need For Alarm (1993), with both selling in the hundreds of thousands. Fed up with the commercialised industry, Del began working with his crew, the Hieroglyphics, releasing 1998s critically acclaimed album 3rd Eye Vision and touring incessantly. Since their inception, the Hieroglyphics crew have developed a cult-like following, while giving each one of their artists the creative freedom to expand.

Continuing to grow in popularity, Del linked up with powerhouse producer Dan the Automator Nakamura and world-class turntablist Kid Koala to create Deltron 3030, one of the most innovative Hip Hop albums in recent history. The ideas and concepts born with Deltron 3030 allowed for the creation of Dels next project; the globally embraced Gorillaz collaboration. With Nakamura, Blurs Damon Albarn, Tom Tom Clubs Tina Weymouth, Buena Vista Social Clubs Ibrahim Ferrer, and Kid Koala working together, the album was an immediate hit. Dels lead vocals on the smash single Clint Eastwood helped Gorillaz to sell over 5 million records worldwide.

Now, in 2011, Del is continuing the decades-long trend of releasing quality material by dropping Golden Era, an epic 3CD set consisting of ten new songs, and two albums never before released physically - a total of 34 tracks.

Dels lyrics and wordplay are the Midas touch to his wonderful taste in production. Del the Funky Homosapien has grown from the 17 year old protg of Ice Cube, to a crafted artist, whose hypnotic voice has transcended the norm, taking underground Hip-Hop to an even deeper level.

On his Australian tour, Del will bless the mic in five cities, performing all his classics from his solo albums and collaborations with Gorillaz, Hieroglyphics, Deltron 3030 and Handsome Boy Modelling School. He is also bringing along with him his Bay Area compadre, and no stranger to Aussie shores, Bukue One.
