"Partnering the song's sombre focus with the strained stretch of violins and vocalist Adrian Calvano's elongated, bluntly-delivered lines" - RollingStone Aus
The beginning of 2017 was a busy but fruitful time for Victorian five-piece The Settlement. After successfully releasing 'Clean Trouble' - a single described by RollingStone AU as "a steer closer to their alt-country side" - the band have spent the last few months knuckling down putting the finishing touches on their forthcoming album Stand In The Middle which is set for release on July 21.
'She Feels Like Home' is the bands latest offering and will lead the charge into the album release and extensive national tour. 'She Feels Like Home' is one of the older songs from the album and has been given the ever so important punters the seal of approval after being played throughout most pubs in the South West of Victoria.
Adrian Calvano (Vocals/Guitar) describes the song as a "cheeky little story of a one night stand going well".
He continues, "I've heard many stories of people having a huge night out and only remembering hearing this song coming from a sweaty band in the corner of a bar in Port Fairy."
Listing Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan as influences, The Settlement have clear roots in folk but pride themselves on staying honest to their own sound and never trying to stay relevant to any kind of scene. With free minds and no clear sound to conform, the band have been working in the studio with a blank page and open mind. If the first three singles are anything to go by The Settlement's forthcoming record will be wonderfully diverse and undoubtedly their best work to date.
After working with Producer Fraser Montgomery on previous singles 'My Desiree' and 'The Feast', the band were thrilled to work with him again as Calvano said, "it was super important to find someone that believes in what you're trying to do and someone that pushes you to find that next chord. Fraser is that guy."
Throughout the recording process, lots of musicians floated in and out of the recording studio (The Aviary) to lend their musical talents. "We were very fortunate to have such great players such as Ben Franz on pedal steel, Ryan Brewer who played piano on 'Tell 'Em You Love 'Em', Dave Adams splashed hammond all over the album and the amazing voices of Emilee South and Brooke Russell providing backing vocals." - Adrian Calvano
With the album due out July 21st there's just one request from the band: "We'd love the listener to sit back and listen to the album from start to finish. In a world full of singles we feel this is super important. We hope the album can help people switch off for a bit and just enjoy the stories etched in Stand In The Middle."
