Weezer release cover of Toto’s ‘Rosanna’ to troll fans who petitioned for an ‘Africa’ cover
Toto’s track ‘Africa’ has risen to the highest ranks of meme-music culture. Alongside ‘All Star’ and ‘Horses’ its place within the pop culture spectrum has forever been solidified (for some) reason as a go-to dancefloor closer and 21st birthday must-spin.
Last year, a 14-year-old named Mary set up a Twitter account, petitioning for Weezer to cover none other than ‘Africa’ by Toto. Weezer and Rivers Cuomo are by no means afraid of throwing down a cover or two – earlier this year Cuomo performed a bunch of 90s classics during a solo acoustic set, including renditions of R.E.M’s ‘Losing My Religion’ and Oasis’ ‘Champagne Supernova’.
Today, unfortunately, those living in the hopes of Weezer covering the iconic track may be just a little disappointed. The band have released a cover of Toto’s less popular ‘Rosanna’, revealing the track by tweeting at the ‘Africa’ campaign account.

Mary showcased her disappointed, acknowledging that Weezer had trolled her back, tweeting,“#WeezerCoverAfrica turned into #WeezerCoveringRosanna ???”
Check out the hook-laden track below – it actually works pretty damn well.
