Watch Rami Malek transform into Freddie Mercury in first Queen trailer

The Queen and Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody finally gets a trailer, eight years after work first began on the troubled film.

It’s all been worth it though, if Malek’s performance in this trailer is anything to go by.

The project first cast Sacha Baron Cohen as Mercury in 2010; he left after three years, citing “creative differences” after clashing with Brian May. Director Bryan Singer was fired after going AWOL from set following allegations of sexual abuse. Then they brought in Dexter Fletcher aka Spike from Press Gang to take over direction.

And now we have a trailer.

The official synopsis reads: “The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is due out November 1 in Australian cinemas.
