Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever take home $25k with Levi’s Music Prize

Melbourne’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever are today $25,000 richer, having been named winners of the third round of the Levi’s Music Prize.

First handed out in September, the quarterly Levi’s Music Prize looks to support artists who have blown up around the world following their appearance at BIGSOUND. Perth’s Stella Donnelly won the inaugural edition of the prize, while Alex Lahey took home the award back in January.

Since performing at the 2016 edition of BIGSOUND, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever released their debut EP, The French Press through the legendary Sub Pop Records, and are currently in the middle of an overseas tour, which has seen them play Coachella in America, and will soon see them in Europe, taking on festivals like The Great Escape and Primavera Sound.

“BIGSOUND provided the opportunity for us play a bunch of shows in front of music industry folks from around the world,” the band said in a statement. “Because of the conference we were able to secure a US booking agent and set things in motion for us to start touring our music.”

“Because touring is not cheap, particularly for Australian bands, it is not easy for young artists to take their music on the road. The Levi’s Music Prize will help us tour our album to new audiences in new cities and towns.”

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever are on track to release their debut album, Hope Downs, just next month. At this stage, they’ve got no local dates on the horizon, apart from a quick appearance at Splendour In The Grass, which just goes to show how in-demand these Aussie rockers are around the world.

Applications for the fourth round of the Levi’s Music Prize are now open and will close on June 11th. For more information about the prize, be sure to head along to the BIGSOUND website.
