Prince’s estate has announced the release of a new album

Earlier this year, Prince’s estate advisor Troye Carter announced that there’d be “mind-blowing” Prince music

“I heard some music the other night that was pretty mind-blowing and we’re getting some stuff mixed right now. We’ve got great projects in the works that I’m excited to talk about. So the answer is yes, there will be unreleased Prince music coming soon,” said Carter in an interview with Variety.

Now, according to Time, Prince’s estate and Warner Bros. have announced the upcoming release of a never before heard live album, taken from a cassette recording of Prince during a rehearsal at his Chanhassen, Minnesota, home studio in 1983.

The album, set for a release on September 21st will be called Piano & A Microphone: 1983 and will feature early versions of Prince classics like ‘Purple Rain’, ’17 Days’, ‘Mary Don’t You Weep’ and a cover of Joni Mitchell’s ‘A Case Of You’.

“This raw, intimate recording – which took place at the start of Prince’s career right before he achieved international stardom – is similar in format to the Piano & A Microphone Tour that he ended his career with in 2016,” Troy Carter, entertainment adviser for the Prince Estate, said of the album.

As Tone Deaf reported this week, a rare copy of Prince’s The Black Album have surfaced online. Half a million copies of the album were pressed on vinyl before Prince had a “spiritual epiphany” and became convinced that the record was “evil”, so if you find yourself in the possession of a copy, consider yourself pretty damn lucky. A rare Canadian pressing of the album has been sold for $27,500 after surfacing on Discogs.
