Narcos moves from Colombia to Mexico and announces loads of new cast members

After three seasons of delving into the hectic Colombia cocaine wars, Narcos will move to Mexico for its fourth season to explore the Guadalajara cartel.

Michael Pena and Diego Luna will star in the next season, titled Narcos: Mexico, and will “explore the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots, beginning at a time when the Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers”, according to a presser.

The series will be set in the ’80s as Luna’s character Felix Gallardo begins empire-building.

“The origins of the Guadalajara cartel are in the late 1970s and early 1980s, so Narcos is going back in time,” showrunner Eric Newman had told The Hollywood Reporter

“We always knew that we would get to Mexico eventually. A key team comprised of myself and the guys I really trust and work very closely with — [director] Andi Baiz, [co-creators] Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro — have been discussing how to best transition to Mexico as early as season two. We decided on the Guadalajara cartel because it represents the beginning of the modern Mexican drug trade. It makes sense to start there.”
