Melbourne’s alternative nightclub Bang! to close its doors after 12 years
Melbourne’s iconic alternative nightclub, Bang!, is set to close its doors for the final time in August, with organisers announcing the final ten events set to take place at the Bourke Street institution.
Opening in March of 2006, Bang! has become a weekly rite of passage for fans of alternative and emo music, with the venue playing host to big names including Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes, and even one-man party Andrew WK.
Taking to Facebook last night, organisers revealed that after twelve years, Bang! is set to close its doors for the final time, but they don’t plan to go quietly.
“There’s no doubt we’ve had some of the best years of our lives bringing Bang! to you all,” the post reads. “We’ve seen friendships made from the dancefloor to the smokers to the bathroom to picking up a new mate when he fell down in the mosh, we’ve remembered our unforgettable nights with thousands of incredible party pics, there have been multiple marriage proposals, bands grow from obscurity to selling out stadiums.”
“So Melbourne, it’s time to show up! We’ve got 10 weeks to do this… to take it out right… so let’s turn up, let’s get buck wild, and let’s GO OUT WITH A BANG!”
Kicking off on June 16th, the final ten weeks of BANG! are set to include “surprise bands, DJs, guests and reunions,” so you can tell that this is certainly going to be one to keep an eye on as more is announced.
Thankfully, organisers did reveal that this won’t be the last you see of them though, and that they’ve got a few tricks left up their sleeve.
“We’ve got some super special and amazing things in the works which we can’t wait to tell you about very soon,” they wrote on Facebook. “But for now we’re going to throw some of the biggest, best and craziest parties to send us off in style.
Bang! is set to hold its last night on August 18th, so be sure to head along to their Facebook event page and click ‘attending’ to stay up to date with the final events taking place at the iconic nightclub.
