Lois Lane of ‘Superman’, Margot Kidder, has died aged 69

Canadian actress Margot Kidder, who gained widespread fame due to her portrayal of the character Lois Lan in the Superman films, has passed away at the age of 69.

As CNN reports, a spokesman has revealed that the actress passed away in her sleep at her home in the US state of Montana on Sunday.

Having acted in her first role back in 1968, Kidder soon found herself on a number of films and TV shows, including The Mod SquadBarettaThe Amityville Horror, and Black Christmas.

However, it was her 1978 role as Lois Lane in Superman alongside Christopher Reeve that saw Kidder reach new levels of fame, with the actress reprising the role in the sequels Superman IISuperman III, and Superman IV: The Quest For Peace.

“Nothing prepares anyone for that sudden thing of being world famous, it was such a shock,” Kidder explained in a 2016 interview. “It wasn’t something I really liked or something I was very good at. I didn’t realize how good the movie was until I seen it at the premier in Washington.”

However, her carer suffered a decline in the ’90s, and Kidder notably suffered through some publicised mental health issues. Despite this, Kidder rebounded and entered a new phase in her life which also saw her acting as an advocate for mental health awareness.

The later stages of Kidder’s life were lived in stark contrast to her days in Hollywood during the ’70s and ’80s, with the actress describing herself to The Guardian in 2005 as “a grandmother with my dogs and nice friends here in the Rocky mountains.”
