This week has seen some pretty amazing additions to the triple j playlist, with plenty of well-deserved Aussie acts getting the recognition they need. Of course, it can’t all be homegrown talent, with lots of amazing international acts getting in on the action as well.

With so many brilliant artists and songs floating around the airwaves, it can be a little hard to keep track of what we’ve been listening to over the week. Well, thanks to our friends over at J Play, you don’t have to worry about not knowing who the most popular artists on triple j are each week any more.

20. Tired Lion

Tired Lion’s Dumb Days scored plenty of accolades and critical reception upon its release, but the band aren’t obviously out of the minds of fans just yet, with triple j giving Tired Lion enough spins to make them one of the most-played acts on the station this week. With the group out on tour as we speak, make sure you catch these brilliant musos before they get too big to play all the small venues.

19. The Rubens

With The Rubens recently announcing that their new album, LO LA RU, is set for release next month, the group upped the ante by dropping their newest tune, a duet with Sarah called ‘Never Ever’. Having made the list of most-played tracks recently, you can be certain that the group’s new album will be spawning just a few more hits when it is released.

18. West Thebarton

Adelaide’s West Thebarton recently dropped their absolutely stunning debut album, Different Beings Being Different, and it’s easily one of the greatest Aussie records of the year. Obviously, triple j listeners think so too, with ‘Stuck On You’ becoming this week’s 15th most-played track. Be sure to catch West Theb while they’re on tour around the country (and remember, it’s ‘Thebarton’ not ‘The Barton’).

17. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

Following the success of last year’s French Press EP, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have seen plenty of local and international love. Now, with their debut album, Hope Downs, on the horizon, the group have managed to score loads of airplay too, especially thanks to the new record’s title track.

16. The Wombats

Honorary Aussies The Wombats are still going strong thanks to their fourth album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, and fans are loving it. Recently announced for this year’s Splendour In The Grass lineup, you can expect to be hearing more of these loveable Englishmen in the coming months.

15. Peking Duk

Having recently dropped two new tracks (but no full-length album yet – what gives, guys?), Peking Duk are on track to absolutely dominate this year as well. With ‘Fire’ currently this week’s twelfth most-played track, it won’t be long before these lads score themselves another high spot on this year’s Hottest 100.

14. Arctic Monkeys

After five years away from the game, Arctic Monkeys recently returned with their latest album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, a few weeks ago. A bit of a stylistic shift for the group, it hasn’t stopped them smashing UK sales records and serving as a new favourite for the group’s dedicated fans around the world. You can be certain that the Arctic Monkeys are set to score a high placing in next year’s Hottest 100 when it rolls around in January.

13. Khalid

He might only be 20, but Khalid possesses a voice and musical sensibility well beyond his years. His soulful crooning in the track ‘OTW (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & 6lack)’ has been seeing massive success making it the station’s ninth most-played track this week.

12. Disclosure

Disclosure haven’t been seen much since 2016, so when the group decided to drop ‘Ultimatum’ on us a few weeks back, the reception was pretty wild. A return to form for the English duo, we just hope there’s an album on the way sometime soon as well!

11. Rüfüs Du Sol

Rüfüs recently made their big comeback to the world of Aussie music, dropping a taste of their new album with ‘No Place’, and formally announcing they’re to be known as Rüfüs Du Sol from here on out. A rose by any other name certainly does smell as sweet, because ‘No Place’ has been tearing up the airwaves enough to be given the honour of this week’s seventh most-played track.

10. Post Malone

Having had a stellar 2017 that included the release of tunes like ‘rockstar’, Post Malone finally released his latest album a few weeks back. Full of the huge bangers that we’ve come to expect from ol’ Postie, tracks like ‘Better Now’ have been doing the rounds, with that one currently sitting at this week’s fifth most-played spot.

9. Ziggy Alberts

Ziggy Alberts has been on the scene for a few years now, making a name for himself as one of the most chilled and breezy musos out there. With ‘Love Me Now’ currently serving as this week’s fourth most-played track, you can be certain that you’ll be hearing plenty more of Ziggy Alberts in the months to come.

8. G Flip

G Flip has taken over the world of Aussie music in the last few month thanks to brilliant tunes like ‘About You’ and ‘Killing My Time’, which is this week’s third most-played track. Now, having recently played her debut Aussie shows, this stunning musician is well on her way to taking over the world.

7. DMA’s

DMA’s recently returned with their latest album, For Now, and fans have been loving the group’s Britpop-infused tunes. With ‘Do I Need You Now?’ currently the tenth most-played track on the station this week, the group are undoubtedly on track for another amazing year.

6. Anderson .Paak

It’s been two years since we received Anderson .Paak’s last album, Malibu, but now, he’s returned with new singles ‘Til It’s Over’ and ‘Bubblin’, the latter of which is this week’s sixth most-played track. The first taste of this acclaimed muso’s new album, Oxnard Ventura, fans have been loving the slick tunes that he delivers.

5. Childish Gambino

When Childish Gambino dropped his latest tune, ‘This Is America’, just a couple of weeks back, the entire world sat up and took notice. With Gambino currently enjoying the most successful period of his career – including #1 spots on the US and Australian charts, and the #2 position on this week’s most-played tracks, we just hope that his upcoming album won’t be his last like he said it would be.

4. The Presets

The Presets recently released their first album in almost six years, Hi Viz, on Friday, and fans have been loving everything they’ve heard. Full of the brilliant hits that we’ve come to know and love from the lads, the album is on track to be one of the year’s biggest, with ‘Downtown Shutdown’ currently serving as this week’s most-played track.

3. Courtney Barnett

Courtney Barnett recently made her full-blown return to the charts with her second album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, and listeners have been lapping up every single song from the record. With tracks like ‘Nameless, Faceless’ and ‘Need A Little Time’ doing the rounds right now to constant acclaim, this is certainly not the last you’ve heard of ol’ Courts.

2. Ocean Alley

Having won fans all over the world with the release of their brilliant single ‘The Comedown’, last year, Ocean Alley released their debut album, Chiaroscuro, a while back now. Having also served as triple j’s feature album, Chiaroscuro showcases the group’s slick jams and stunning sound, with listeners continuing to love everything they hear from this amazing collective.

1. CHVRCHES

Scotland’s CHVRCHES recently made their comeback with Love Is Dead, their first album in three years. With the group already on their way to Australia for Splendour In The Grass in July, and now a feature album spot under their belts, you can be sure that this is just the tip of the iceberg for these brilliant tunemakers.
