Demi Lovato releases heartbreaking new single ‘Sober’
Demi Lovato has just released a heartbreaking new single about her recent relapse.
“I’m not sober anymore”
In the harrowing chorus, Lovato sings “Momma I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore / And Daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor / To the ones who never left me, we’ve been down this road before / I’m so sorry, I’m not sober.”
She has been candid about her history struggling mental illness and substance abuse, as well as her road to recovery. Just months ago, she celebrated six years of sobriety in a Twitter post – so this latest song is a very sad announcement for both herself and fans.
In the song she also croons “And I’m sorry for the fans I lost / Who watched me fall again / I wanna be a role model / But I’m only human” – the loving apology to her fans is a shot straight to the heart.
A brighter future
“I’m sorry that I’m here again / I promise I’ll get help / It wasn’t my intention / I’m sorry to myself.”
Lovato makes it clear that she want to change, and make amends to those her relapse affected. Her openness with the media and her fans about her struggles is admirable. It is no easy task coping with mental health issues, let alone in the public eye. She is an inspiration to fans and others in per position.
