Death Cab For Cutie announce new album, ‘Thank You For Today’

Just last week we noted how Death Cab For Cutie were teasing us with some new tunes, now we know exactly when we’ll be getting a full collection of these swell new tunes.

Death Cab For Cutie last week dropped a small taster of a new track titled ‘Your Hurricane’, which only served to piqu the interest of their legions of fans. While we had been told that there was a new album on the way, the group hadn’t been too forthcoming with information, choosing to be a little bit more cryptic than we’d prefer.

Now, Death Cab For Cutie have revealed that their new ten-track album, titled Thank You For Today, is set to be released on August 17th. To sweeten the deal, the group also dropped their new single, ‘Gold Rush’, which you can listen to below.

Currently, it’s been over three years since Death Cab For Cutie released their last album, Kintsugi, which contained somewhat more of an alt-rock lean to it, and was the last record by the group to feature founding guitarist Chris Walla, who has since released a solo album of his own.

Death Cab For Cutie also released a Donald Trump-protest song back in 2016 titled ‘Million Dollar Loan’, which was released on a similarly-themed compilation, though no new music had surfaced since then.

While the group have announced some upcoming tour dates which will keep them busy until November, we can only hope that they’ll be announcing some Australian dates as well.

It’s currently been three years since the indie-rock legends touched down on Aussie soil for Splendour In The Grass in 2015 and some accompanying sideshows, though we assume that once the album drops, we might be closer to receiving some local tour dates.
