A new study has found that the smarter you are the more you drink

Well that’s my new excuse sorted! A recent study by the London School of Economics has found that the more educated you are, the more likely you are to drink.

The study was conducted on thousands of 39 year olds and found that people with degrees are more likely to drink on most days than those without qualifications. Ladbible reports the study found “The better-educated appear to be the ones who engage the most in problematic patterns of alcohol consumption.

Other studies in Finland have already shown that in twins, the first to start talking is often the first to start drinking. So next time someone tells you that you drink too much, just remind them of their inferior mind.

A recent National Childhood Development Survey in the UK also found that there was a clear association between childhood intelligence and the amount of alcohol consumed in later years. So next time you’re still out at the pub at 2 in the morning, try sparking some scholarly conversation with another person in the smoking area.

The most recent study found that men with a qualification were 49% more likely to drink on most days. Women with degrees are 71% more likely to than those without qualifications. What a time to be alive!

There doesn’t seem to be much understanding as to why there is an association between intelligence and alcohol consumption yet. Hopefully someone figures it out and we can start measuring our intelligence through shots of tequila!
