A mysterious website suggests the new Gorillaz album is due next month

Just one month ago, we passed the one year mark since Humanz was released, the first album from Gorillaz in seven years. However, it appears the band are not content to rest on their laurels, with a mysterious website suggesting that new music from the group could be here as soon as next month.

Back in December, we reported how Gorillaz are looking at releasing a new album this year, with Jamie Hewlett admitting the band don’t want to get into a habit of entering a period of inactivity between records.

“So we’re going straight into the album with no break,” Hewlett admitted. “Usually we have a good five-year break between each album but we decided: ‘You know what? Let’s keep going’ because there’s ideas for a few more albums so we’re going to go straight into that. That will be all of [2017] and probably the year beyond that.”

Now, as Exclaim reports, it appears that a new website has suggested that a new album by the group is set to be titled The Now Now, and is due for release on June 29th.

On Friday, London’s All Points East festival kicked off, with fans noting a series of posters that were plastered around the place. Adorned with slogans such as “G Is The Magic Number” and “No More Unicorns Anymore” (the latter of which was featured on an Instagram post by Jamie Hewlett, the band’s visual artist), the posters all featured a web address at the bottom, with fans soon checking out just what thenownow.tv was all about.

Fans who visit the site are met with a short, retro-inspired clip that features band member 2-D playing a guitar, while the words “The Now Now” are flashed on the screen, before the date of June 29th also appears, indicating that something is set to be released on that date.

Of course, while the band haven’t confirmed just what is coming, given all this talk of a new album in recent months, it looks as though we could be seeing record #6 rather soon.

Earlier this month, Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn made headlines after reportedly leaving the new record in a taxi while he went out for a night on the town.

“It was a disaster,” explained an unnamed source. “Damon oversees everything and, with Gorillaz, it’s not just audio – it’s the expensive visuals as well. The laptop’s contents are priceless.”

“But after a night at Groucho, Damon accidentally left it in a cab and caused a huge panic,” they continued. “It’s a really personal project because the album is very politically charged. A lot of his opinions on Brexit filter through it.”

Thankfully though, after a few hours of worry, the taxi driver in question managed to return the laptop to its rightful owner. “It was a massive relief for everyone involved in the project,” the source said.

While we have no confirmation as to what will exactly be dropping on June 29th, we’ll just have to sit back and wait, and hope that the group’s collaboration with Flume will finally be seeing the light of day.
