THE PAW HOUSE BAND is the studio session players at PAW Music studios situated in Yuendumu. This is a real desert music all-star line-up with Scotty Brown (Rising Wind, Desert Mulga Band), Kenneth Martin (Lajamanu Teenage Band), Donovan Rice (Black Storm, DB40) and from out of another world Julien Poulson (The Cambodian Space Project). The desert music scene began with ‘bush bands’ picking up instruments and writing their own songs in the early 1970’s. The desert township of Yuendumu came alive with the now legendary Poor Boys and later with the establishment of bush radio stations in the 1980’s. Remarkably, in the early 80’s a Pirate TV Station sprang forth in Yuendumu and forged the way for establishment of Warlpiri Media (now PAW) and created a fertile ground where the astonishing success of Aboriginal rock’n’roll band - The Warumpi Band – trailblazing out of Papunya - and the brilliant success of TV series “Bush Mechanics” came to life in Yuendumu. Today, THE PAW HOUSE BAND is celebrating a back catalogue of ‘bush band’ songs – and performing songs from a desert music history that spans 50 years - this includes tracks by singer songwriters including Jimmy Langdon, Harry Jones, and Neil Murray, as well as brand new material featured on releases including First Sounds and Yapa Beats. Much of this new material is written and/or produced at PAW Studios by inhouse musicians Donovan Rice and Clifford "Scotty" Brown. At PAW Media, ‘the little recording studio in the central desert’ it’s always busy! Numerous songwriters and musicians, young and old, frequent the studio and record their tracks for direct release on PAW Radio – direct from the studio to the airwaves. It’s time to take The PAW HOUSE BAND on the road and it’s a very special line-up fronted by Kenneth Martin of Lajamanu Teenage Band fame. The PAW boys bring the best of desert music to the stage to represent the story of the music makers at PAW Studios “the Motown of the desert" and the incredible history of Warlpiri songs and musicians who have featured on countless songs and recording sessions. The PAW HOUSE BAND represents 40years of desert music history. Donovan Rice, Scotty Brown and Kenneth Martin being best known for groups such as Black Storm, Rising Wind, Desert Mulga and the legendary The Lajamanu Teenage Band. They're joined by guitarist/music producer Julien Poulson (PAW Music) whose own work with cross-culture phenomenon The Cambodian Space Project is world renown. In 2022, The PAW HOUSE BAND is going live! With new collaborations and live shows coming up in Darwin and Melbourne. Each of the musicians (The PAW boys) has new albums due for release and at PAW Studios, are busy working towards a special album that covers some 50 years of desert music and Warlpiri song.
