Kinetic Fighting

A veteran of multiple combat tours with the 2nd Commando Regiment and a former team leader with Tactical Assault Group-East, Sergeant (Ret.) Paul Cale literally rewrote the book on Special Forces Close-Quarter Fighting.

Paul developed the world-leading Australian Army Combatives Program (ACP) used by the Australian Army and Special Forces, based on his Kinetic Fighting–Integrated Combat model. He has since applied that same model to bespoke training programs for the SA Police Special Tasks and Rescue (STAR) Force, ADF Military Police, Corrections NSW Special Operations Group and Special Forces CPP teams, to name just a few.

The courses in Cale’s KEF–IC syllabus (aka Personal Combatives) and his law-enforcement programs use the same principles and core techniques as the ACP. The mindset remains the same; however, you’ll learn only what’s applicable to tackling violence as a law-enforcement professional. Battlefield rules of engagement are replaced with the laws of arrest and self-defence, and a soldier’s weapon systems are replaced with your LE appointments, your body and any other legal tools at hand.

SESSION 1 – TACTICAL CONTROL & ARREST:

In this seminar for serving law-enforcement professionals, Paul will address some of the key technical and tactical gaps in current OST curriculums.

In the interest of enhancing your capability and safety on the job — as well as that of your colleagues, and the public — he will cover the following:

  • Entry & Force Delivery – Timing, weight, momentum, targeting, etc.
  • Disengagement & Weapon Retention – Tactical considerations and equipment use
  • Takedowns – Effective within use-of-force considerations and meeting tactical aims
  • Ground Control – Disengagement, team co-ordination and protection of weapons/equipment
  • Combat Mindset – Balanced with UOF and ‘public perception’ constraints

Note: This seminar is restricted to serving police, PSOs and Corrections officers, therefore:

  1. Only ticket-holders who provide proof of purchase and occupation may be eligible to attend (please book your ticket using your ‘.gov’ email address)
  2. A signed waiver/registration form must be submitted prior to training (this will be sent to ticket-holders a week before the event)
  3. Eligibility will ultimately be decided at the discretion of Kinetic Fighting Pty Ltd (KEF) management and the host venue.

Time: 8.00am – 12.00pm, 16 October 2022

Location: GUARDIAN DEFENCE, 1 Joyce Court, Coburg Vic. 3056

SESSION 2 – COMBATIVE GRAPPLING & GROUND SURVIVAL

The Combative Grappling course teaches the essential tactics and techniques of grappling to overcome a committed assault — and how to adapt BJJ/sport grappling skills for survival, and to fit policing ROE.

In this session (the KEF–IC Echo module), you’ll learn how to out-grapple an opponent when lives are at stake, rather than competition points. Over four hours, you will hone vital strategies and skills to survive life-threatening situations where you are on the ground and under attack. You will also drill ground-fighting responses for when weapons are, or could be, in your assailant’s possession.

The core skills and drills of this module provide the framework for adapting sport jiu-jitsu skills to combat real violence, or learning the essentials from scratch. Together, they develop the following key aspects of grappling for self-protection:

  • Targeting your attacks to stop threats rapidly
  • Weapon awareness, pre-emptive response and counters
  • Supine (guard) offence and recovery tactics
  • Shoulder lock variations and controls for key tactical positions
  • Clinching with a weapon

You will also receive a comprehensive training booklet, along with a certificate and badge (which adheres to KEF–IC training gear) denoting your completion of this module in the Kinetic Fighting system.

Time: 12.30pm – 4.30pm, 16 October 2022

Location: GUARDIAN DEFENCE, 1 Joyce Court, Coburg Vic. 3056
