Event Details

Stefan Grossman’s name is synonymous with most aspects of the acoustic guitar experience. Stefan witnessed the astonishing appearance of blues rediscoveries — Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Skip James, Bukka White and he learned from them all.

Most of all he learned from the great Rev Gary Davis and he acquired his 'Kid Future' nickname from being able to play Willie Brown's arrangement of Future Blues.

He met John Fahey, Ry Cooder and Steve Mann. "If you could play guitar," says Stefan, "you were accepted anywhere. In 2012 Stefan Grossman returned to Australia for his first tour in 30 years.

Stefan Grossman makes it look easy; his laid back humour abets his brilliance and one is apt to forget that the man on stage is playing some of the most difficult pieces. Stefan has played with Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Eric Clapton and Paul Simon. "I didn't even know who Paul Simon was," he recalls, "though of course I'd heard Simon and Garfunkel."

In the late 1970s, Stefan toured and recorded extensively with John Renbourn; of his duets with Renbourn, Stefan said simply, "It works well because we're great friends, and we really work hard on our music."

In 2014 Stefan will include Adelaide in his itinerary and we will once again enjoy benefit of Stefan Grossman's hard work.
