About the movie: One answer away from winning the jackpot on the TV gameshow, Jamal (Dev Patel) a simple street boy, is taken away to be tortured and interrogated by police who suspect him of cheating. Slumdog Millionaire cleverly bounces back in time to show us how life experience rather than book knowledge landed Jamal on the cusp of a fortune. A series of flashbacks takes us through his life in the slums, how he and his brother lost their mother in a riot and their ensuing struggle for survival.Vicious encounters with local gangs and a heartbreaking love story are coupled with some hilarious comedy that arouses from the boys sheer resourcefulness. A shockingly brutal story that explores extreme poverty and greed, love and betrayal, this film is so vivid you can almost smell it.
