Duke of George presents
Pete Jeavons Nonet
Having performed at the Duke of George many times with groups such as Sassafras, Swan River Ramblers, Electric Django Quintet and The Awakenings Ensemble, bassist Pete Jeavons brings his Nonet to the Duke for a second time on Saturday August 27.
The Pete Jeavons Nonet primarily draws on the music of American jazz luminaries such as Charles Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey and Oliver Nelson to name only a few. Repertoire also includes some compositions by Australian jazz musicians/composers including one or two penned by Jeavons himself.
You can expect to hear hard swinging jazz alongside earthy blues and gospel sounds, some blistering tempos and the occasional poignant ballad. Intricate ensemble passages frame virtuosic solos while a patchwork of raucous horns help bring things to a fever pitch.
All the music is arranged by Pete Jeavons specifically for this nine piece line-up, with the aim of combining the sounds and aesthetic of a big band with the spontaneity and interplay more commonly found in a small group.
Featuring a stellar line-up of Perth jazz talent, this promises to be an evening of high energy, top quality jazz.
