Parking Lot Experiments
Fresh from being selected to play new boutique festival Camp Casual and much-loved mainstay Boogie, Melbourne pop oddballs Parking Lot Experiments are preparing to launch and tour a devastating new single from their upcoming album. 'Live Long' is an epic squeezed into five minutes (listen HERE). It begins unassumingly, with quiet melodies and earnest lyricism, before erupting into the kind of starry crescendo that could make Vesuvius jealous. At that point, when your knees are at their wobbliest, the song explodes into a crazed hearts-on-sleeves anthem, thundering to a cathartic close amidst roaring guitars and inexhaustible melodies. Parking Lot Experiments have been building their reputation as a chaotically fun live experience around Melbourne for years, supporting international acts such as Yeasayer, WHY?, Dan Deacon, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, John Maus, and Holy Fuck. They've also been concocting a full-length album, recorded and mastered by Jonathan Boulet and mixed by San Diego-based producer Rafter Roberts (whose previous mixees include Sufjan Stevens, the Fiery Furnaces, and the Album Leaf). 'Live Long' is the second single from that upcoming album, and represents the culmination of their rare sonic talents: cathartic but not aggressive, dense but not obtuse, and earnest but not sentimental.
