Painting vivid, joyous, funny & loving pictures of growing up queer in rural Australia, Michael has reinvigorated Australian folk and alt-country music

Stomping the Brunny Ballroom stage with his rainbow elastic panelled Blundstone boots, this is queer-country, queer as folk, and some of the best damned songwriting in the country. Painting vivid, joyous, funny and loving pictures of growing up queer in rural Australia, award winning songwriter Michael Waugh has reinvigorated Australian folk and alt-country music. Waugh is a songwriter’s songwriter, a compelling live performer and an extraordinary storyteller. Among his admirers are Josh Cunningham from The Waifs, iconic singer-songwriter Eric Bogle and alt. country luminary Shane Nicholson. He is the recipient of a Music Victoria Award (2018 Folk and Roots Album of the Year) and a Golden Guitar Award (2022 Heritage Song of the Year.).

"When Michael Waugh opens his mouth, you should listen." — The Australian....

"Michael Waugh inhabits the characters and places in his songs with accuracy and sensitivity. Experiencing his new record made me feel like I’d encountered something that had genuinely made me a better, more empathetic person."  — Josh Cunningham – The Waifs...

"One of Australia's finest songwriters." — Stuart Coupe - author, music commentator and radio presenter...

"Michael takes all these elements of the human condition and lyrically moulds them into something that is very special indeed, the mark of a compassionate and insightful human being and a gifted songwriter."  — Eric Bogle...

"His lyrics stop me in my tracks" — Fanny Lumsden

with special guest HANNAH ACFIELD

Award winning Australian songwriter Hannah Acfield delivers soulful roots music interwoven with luminous threads of gospel and RnB. Her debut solo album "No Light Without Shade" (2021) garnered praise from fans and critics alike, with The Australian newspaper heralding the release as “a triumph of talent”, and her voice as “an instrument of breathtaking dexterity”. Remarkably, Hannah’s latest live album was recorded and filmed in one take. “Live at The Aviary” showcases her astonishing vocal and classic songwriting, exquisitely supported by Melbourne’s finest instrumentalists.
