Melbourne Mod Weekend 2024

We’re thrilled to host the inaugural Melbourne Mod weekend – a 3-day celebration of mod music, style and culture happening March 15th-17th 2024.

This event will attract DJs from around the country, all playing their original vinyl collections for our listening and dancing pleasure.  We’ll cover all the classic sounds that represent this cool scene: 60s RnB, soul, latin, jazz, British beat, ska and boss sounds. Our weekend starts on Friday 15th with a Dj boat cruise on the Lady Cutler, on Saturday 16th we will fill the ballroom at the Fringe Common Rooms with djs, dancing and vintage lighting created by Spektraflash Lighting.

The Sunday of the weekender will be held at the stunning Brunswick Ballroom. We have the amazing Futuras Hammond Band playing two stomping sets of heavy Hammond organ mod tunes plus Djs playing original vinyl and setting the dancefloor on fire.   We’ll also have a vintage market and record sales making this a great all-round mod experience.

The Futuras Hammond Blues Band is set to take the Mod Weekender by storm with their selection of totally cool and quintessentially hip Hammond instrumentals. Led by bassist Flash Gordon Johns, The Futuras bring together a stellar lineup of musicians, featuring Dom Prattico, the ‘Palermo Playboy’, on drums, Justin 'The Bear' Wheelahan on Hammond, and Michel ‘Les Guillotine’ Galvin on guitar. Known for their rare but electrifying performances, The Futuras transport audiences to a once and future golden age of Modernist Hammond hipdom. Their repertoire includes tunes by artists such as Booker T, Billy Larkin, Ike Turner, Lee Moses, Hendrix and Curtis Knight, Willie Mitchell, Small Faces, Stones and more…you get the picture… all capturing the essence of the Mod scene and ethos and paying homage to the Modern masters. The Futuras, keepers of the flame, invite audiences to dig deep into the rhythm and the blues and experience the magnetic pull of their music, as inevitable and compelling as the stars in the night sky, whirling through inter-dimensional space and time.
