Cuban-American Pianist Fabian Almazan and Australian bassist Linda May Han Oh are two of the most in-demand performers on the international creative music scene. As well as touring with their own groups and with luminaries such as Pat Metheny, Joe Lovano, Terence Blanchard and Ambrose Akinmusire.
The pair are both prolific composers, both receiving commissions through Chamber Music America, the Aaron Copland Fund and the Jerome Foundation. They will appear here with the WAYJO Big Band where Linda first began her early days of her musical path as the WAYJO bassist. The repertoire will feature their own original compositions and arrangements some from Linda May Han Oh’s APRA Art Award nominated album Aventurine, as well as new works by the two.
“Forces to be reckoned with… Oh leads her own groups, including the one for her album Aventurine, and performs as a member of other bands, such as Pat Metheny’s quartet. Almazan is a critically-acclaimed pianist for trumpeter Terence Blanchard and the founder of the environmentally-conscious record label Biophilia. Together, dare we say, they are one of today’s premiere jazz power couples.” NPR - Jazznight in America.
