20 of these things. Mad really.
For Vol. 20, we’re bringing together a proper mix of Naarm favourites, interstate heat and two very special guests from the UK.
Headlining the night are GOSSIMA — a masked, anonymous UK collective making left-field bass, hyperpop and indie dance from outside the machinery of the music industry.
Born from the fallout of major-label chaos, lawsuits, contracts and all the other fun bits of the music business, GOSSIMA decided to bin the identities, put on the masks and start again.
The result is a beautifully unhinged collision of distorted bass, euphoric melodies, hyperpop chaos and indie-dance grooves.
No labels. No genre rules. No idea what they’re legally allowed to tell us.
Just good tunes.
We’re also stoked to have KELLS flying over from the UK.
Fresh from a massive set at Boomtown, Kells brings that unmistakable UKG sound — bouncy, bumpy, playful and full of flavour. With releases across Garage Shared, Southpoint, Bubble, Untitled, Subtle, Slime, Pull Up, Four40 and more, plus production work with Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke and a remix of MJ Cole, he’s seriously deep in UK club culture.
Expect proper selector business.
SADIVA returns as one of Naarm’s most trusted dancefloor operators. From Beyond the Valley and Let Them Eat Cake to Red Bull’s Cypher One, international tours and her own community-driven events, she brings years of experience and a sound shaped by both Melbourne and the world.
LIGHT JOG — Shtutz & FAF — bring their unique take on UKG and 140, combining FAF’s bass-heavy productions and two-step rollers with Shtutz’s smooth MC flow. After closing out Section 8 following Bakey & Capo Lee, these two have been making serious noise around Naarm.
FRIEND OF MINE makes the trip down from the Gold Coast with his high-energy take on the UKG revival. With support from DJ EZ, Skeptic and Bushbaby, plus sets alongside Conducta, Osmosis Jones, Prizefight and Isgwan, he’s quickly becoming one to keep a very close eye on.
And of course, GARÇON will be there doing what Garçon does — holding down the foundations and making sure the garage levels remain thoroughly irresponsible.
Two UK imports. A stack of local talent. One very questionable Saturday night.
VOL. 20 — SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19.
