Exercise your liberation on the drum kit with semi-private drumming lessons in the Gershwin Room with the crew from Hey Drums and a special guest teaching each month.

The Espy Arts program excitably introduces Hey Drums to the line up of weekly art classes in 2020

Join us for a drink, dinner and conversation with like-minded music lovers in the iconic band room while learning the drums with Julia Watt of Moody Beaches, The Jinks and Low Waves, to name a few.

This experience is designed for beginners of all ages.

Arrive from 6:45PM to put your name on the board for sessions starting at 7PM. Each lesson will run on intervals of 10 minutes. Tickets will be available on the door but to secure one of the 15 spots available we recommend booking with us online.

Hey Drums is a collective of female and gender minority drummers and percussionists engaged in community activities around Australia including a blog, print media, live performance and teaching events. The initiative was created in 2016 by Nat Grant, an independent drummer, percussionist, and composer from Melbourne.

Nat is passionate about subverting stereotypes around the instrument by sharing as many diverse stories as possible and creating a strong network of interesting, experienced, and awesome drummers. Check out more of their interviews with local and international artists here.

Drumming Queen Julia Watt is rarely seen without sticks in her hands. Since the early 2000’s she has been touring nationally and internationally and wouldn’t want to spend her time doing anything else.

Outside of live shows, Julia has extensive experience recording and teaching. She is known as a warm, encouraging and passionate teacher. She regularly volunteers at Girls Rock! Melbourne, an incredible program amplifying the voices of female, trans and gender diverse youth through music education and positive mentorship, and she also runs a small music school from her home studio

Come and enjoy your own 10 minute session on the drums with Julia. Dinner and drinks available for purchase across the bar.
