Headlining the first of two Sydney events are instrumental post-rock legends sleepmakeswaves, playing their first shows of 2025, alongside American cinematic rock icons Caspian, returning to Australia for the first time in over a decade.
The all-day event kicks off at 12:30pm and showcases a dynamic lineup from the Bird’s Robe family. Highlights include the long-awaited reunion of influential math-prog outfit Squat Club, as well as performances from Melbourne progressive rock favourites Closure in Moscow & Toehider, Anubis, Treebeard, Kodiak Empire, Hence Confetti, Mowgli, clayhands, and the debut live performance of synth-rock project The Orphaned Bee.
The event will also feature artist signings, a display of artwork from We Lost The Sea, merch giveaways and a competitive table tennis tournament.
Alex Wilson from sleepmakeswaves said of Bird’s Robe/Mike Solo:
“Bird’s Robe & Mike Solo…people will have lots of things to say about. He is just as much responsible as any member of the band for any of the success that sleepmakeswaves is perceived as having.”
The celebration coincides with the release of the Bird’s Robe documentary series, which premiered its first episode in July. New episodes drop fortnightly from July through December.

Director Mike Solo says:
Ten years ago, on Saturday 5 December in 2015, a bunch of bands playing post-rock, prog, metal and alternative rock got together at Manning Bar in Sydney, Australia to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Bird’s Robe Records. It was awesome.
Since then, we’ve crossed the globe many more times, survived a global pandemic and come out the other side with even more talent to showcase from our little niche. So please join us to relive the memories, create new ones & celebrate an epic ride of prog, post rock, and otherwise innovative music with our friends & family.
If you’ve never had the chance to see some of these bands, we hope our efforts to bring them all together in the one place make for a worthy day/night of entertainment.
Enjoy!
