2 Inch Tape may be the greatest Melbourne band you’ve never heard of, but then again, maybe you have. For the past eight years, the band has crafted six studio albums culminating in their latest offering, ‘What I Need’, their most adventurous record to date.

As you journey through the album’s nine tracks, you can feel the likes of Neil Young, Leonard Cohen and Radiohead along for the ride. The opening title track would sit nicely amongst Young's Ditch Trilogy, whilst the utilisation of complex rhythms in ‘Way Too Deep’, ‘The Edge’ and layered textures throughout hark to a Yorke/Greenwood creation. 

Fronted by Simon Rigoni, the album is lyrically rich and cemented in heartfelt sincerity. His deeply personal lyrics are aided by a familiar cast including Sisyphus, Eurydice, Lydia, Cohen and Marianne Ihlen.

At it’s core a five piece alternative rock band, 2 Inch Tape will expand to a nine piece band for this very special one off event to celebrate the release of the vinyl edition of the ‘What I Need’ album. The performance will aim to reproduce the album in all its intensity and layered complexity; every cello swell, vibraphone bow and ondes musicales oddity included. The band will then close then evening with a collection of past favourites and a sneak peak into their future releases.
