Completion of this short course is designed to fast track the progress of learning through further practice in the studio environment. The focus is not on the product of making as such, but on foundational process in ceramic art. It will provide a distinct advantage for those who wish to develop a ceramics practice and undertake further learning.

Technique, knowledge and skills bases covered in the course:

• Brief historical overview of ceramic art and design into contemporary practice
• Introduction to the nature of raw materials, products, and application
• Clay preparation: Selection; de-airing; blending and mixing for design purpose; centring and first steps at the potter's wheel.
• Introduction to glaze and firing technologies
• Pine Street ceramics studio practice
