The band's name - Sydney's Afro Cuban Elite - says it all. Leader Armandito Garcia is Australia's leading arranger, composer and bandleader in the world of Latin music. Born in San Luis, Cuba, and educated at the Conservatorium in Santiago de Cuba, he's been playing professionally since he was a teenager. He played in the legendary Sonora La Calle, taking authentic Cuban music around the world, to the UK, Europe and beyond, sharing billing with the likes of Buena Vista Social Club and Los Van Van. He first came to Australia in 2002 with Sonora La Calle, then with international stage show Lady Salsa, and now calls Australia home.

Behind Armandito the band is a powerhouse of excellent players and singers, a slick unit schooled in the exciting sounds of traditional Cuban music with a big helping of spontaneity and improv.
