We all love a good boat party and in January we hosted the mother of all boat parties when Danny Howells gave us a lesson in good times on board the Victoria Star Cruise Ship. The vibe was electric, the tunes were sensational and dance moves were thrown all over the place. Well, get your sun glasses and best imitation captain's hat ready as we are setting sail this time with a man who's portfolio contains 8 Global Underground and 2 Renaissance compilations on top of 2011's Balance mix. He is head of A&R for Hope Recordings and can boast of being the official tour DJ for Massive Attack in the mid-nineties, as well as being the resident DJ for the legendary Cream nightclub. Yes, they don't get much bigger than Nick Warren! Also included on the lineup is Melbourne's favorite superstar DJ Anthony Pappa who will be playing his first headline show for Darkbeat in 10 months (and also his first Australian show for 2014). No need to tell you what the man can do as his skills are well documented. Joining Anthony and Nick will be Sean Quinn and Kasey Taylor, legends in their own right and 2 artists that you know will bring their A-game every time they perform. That main room by itself is worth the price of admission, but we decided that we can make this even more special.

On to the side room then... and maybe sit down for this one. Back in the early 00's Progressive Breaks and House ruled the scene in Melbourne, and we've decided the time is right to showcase some of the biggest local heroes from that scene in the MELBOURNE BREAKS LEGENDS ROOM. On the night we will have PURE breaks sets from the likes of:

Jamie Stevens doing an Infusion tribute set!
Danny Bonnici playing a very RARE Nubreed showcase set!
Luke Chable special classic breaks set!
Phil K - the originator and grandmaster of the original Melbourne breaks sound!

Ok, you may go ahead and pick up your jaw from the floor! This is the first time in years that these artists have re-visited their back catalogue so this is an extremely rare treat for everyone who has a soft spot for the golden years of breaks! There really isn't anything more we can say. This party is going to one of a kind and getting all these amazing artists on board a ship is definitely a world first and not to be missed! You've been warmed - this is going to sell out!

NICK WARREN (UK)

Nick Warren really is one of Australia's most beloved DJ's. One of the true pioneers of the progressive sound, Nick has been around since the advent of dance music alongside other UK compatriots like Paul Oakonfold, Sasha and Tall Paul. By the early '90s, he was one of the UK's top DJs, spinning everything from dub and hip-hop to house. When fellow Bristol artists Massive Attack left to tour America in the wake of their early success, they invited Warren to accompany them on tour as their official DJ, a testament to his turntable skills as well as his reputation at the time.

Around this same time, the mid- to late '90s, Warren was also garnering quite a bit of attention for his Way Out West collaboration with Jody Wisternoff, resulting in several popular singles for Deconstruction, most notably "The Gift," as well as a self-titled full-length featuring the group's hits. Nick played an integral part in defining the then-evolving trance sound of the late '90s when he joined the relatively unknown Global Underground brand; a relationship that proved to be career defining as he ended up mixing 8 of the legendary label's compilations. A regular for the Renaissance brand as well, Nick really has done it all. Last year's mix compilation for the hallowed Balance series has shown that Nick is still as relevant as what he was 20 years ago.

To start off the new year of 2013, Nick is looks to the future, and has just announced that he will be mixing the next Renaissance Cd, and has says. "I am really excited to announce that I'll be compiling the next album, set for a January 2013 release, which will be my 13th compilation. In 2001 Danny Howells and I released The Masters Series Part Four: Revelation and it's fantastic to be asked on their 20th Anniversary to mix the next installment. These are exciting times for electronic music with genres and styles more eclectic than ever before and with this album for the Masters series I hope to highlight some of the most breathtaking and diverse electronic music in 2012. Following a similar template to my Soundgarden Radio shows, the mix over two cd's will explore the ambient and leftfield side of electronic music as well as more dancefloor-oriented sounds, taking in producers from every corner of the planet and showcasing many unknown talents. The music I have found so far for the compilation is exceptional and I can't wait to get into the studio to mix it."

So we can be assured he will be in fine form come Dec 7th, & that we will most likely be given a test run / sneak peak of the new album throughout a smashing 3hr+ Set.

ANTHONY PAPPA (AUS)

In 1994, frustrated at being halfway around the world from where the music he loved was happening, Anthony decided to re-locate to England's capital. It wasn't long before his talents were picked up by a core group of the UK's biggest DJ's, who together forged a strong squad of players that would shape the sounds that have been constantly evolving and always pushing the boundaries over the last two decades and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Upon more recent years, the end of 2010 improved further on previous years for Anthony by an even busier touring schedule including just over 100 performances in total at various clubs and festivals over the globe. This was also the year Anthony was selected to mix the cover mount CD for DJ Mag's coveted Top 100 DJ's edition. The mix has received high praise from all the big hitters and industry professionals alike. Alongside DJing, Production was key to Anthony's success with high profile releases including his massive collaboration with King Unique called "Vamoosh" released on Bedrock.

2011/12 was a year of change for Anthony, with his move to the world renowned B4Bookings Agency standing alongside fellow DJ's the likes of Davide Squillace, Marco Carola, Slam & Paco Osuna to name but a few. On top of this, Anthony had been in the studio creating new tracks that would pleasantly surprise his adoring followers whilst simultaneously creating an entirely new fan base and continuing touring throughout south America, Mexico, & Europe.

Anthony was excited when he first heard about this project, which has allowed him to do something a little different from his live shows and bring an extra element to his musical portfolio & with a style which is close to his heart. Having still incorporated all of Anthony's unique, trademark defining "track selection, journey build, & precision mixing skills" coupled with his overall way of making things just pop - This mix is one that will be talked about for many years to come.

Now in 2013, after just having completed this mix cd for Darkbeat / Darkbeat Recordings Anthony's gig diary looking as healthy as ever, including an extended tour of his homeland, Australia as well as dates booked all over the world, combined with big plans for the studio again, 2014 is shaping up to be another big year for Anthony.
