Event Details

Comedy at The Basement is a comedy event emanating from Sydney's iconic jazz club, The Basement, in Circular Quay. Twice a month, Comedy at The Basement will host the funniest stand-up comedians in the country. It's the only place to catch world-class comedy in Sydney's CBD, and at one of the city's most beloved venues.

For the second Comedy at the Basement show, we are delighted to be serving up more heavyweights of the Australian comedy scene. Any one of these purveyors of laughter is worthy of a headline spot anywhere in the world, but for this show, the sharp-witted and daringly clever Chris Wainhouse has risen to the occasion.

Touted by many as one of the best comedians in the country, Chris Wainhouse is a regular headline act at some of the world's most prestigious comedy venues, including Melbourne's Comedy Club, ''The Classic'' in Auckland and Jongluers in the UK. He also regularly headlines in Singapore, Jakarta, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Chris' most recent festival show, 'The Antichris', a hilarious exploration of his fundamentalist Christian upbringing, was nominated for 'Best Comedy Show' at the 2014 Perth Fringe Festival. Chris will be bringing his internationally honed craft to The Basement on September 17.

"The Anti-Chris is in full throttle, no one will be able to stop him" The Music

The MC for the evening is Daniel Townes. His laidback style of stand-up has won over audiences all over Australia, as well as in Singapore, Germany, Spain, Ireland, South Africa, Canada, Holland and all over the UK. A regular on the Australian festival circuit, Daniel has also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the prestigious invite-only Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal.

Supporting these great acts on the night are:

Dave Jory - Chosen in 2007 as an Australian finalist for the popular NBC America program, 'Last Comic Standing', Dave Jory is the comedian you wish you were. A combination of great jokes, strong eye contact and outrageous backstage demands, Jory is not to be missed.

Bruce Griffiths - Bruce Griffiths' unconventional and intelligent style has seen him headline around Australia and in the UK, Ireland and Netherlands, as well as being asked to support diverse acts, from actor/comedian Martin Short to hardcore punk and spoken word artist Henry Rollins.

Becky Lucas - Originally from Brisbane, Triple J Raw Comedy National Finalist, Becky Lucas is one of the best young comedians in Australia. Catch her now so that you can insufferably tell people in later years that you saw her "before she was famous".

*** Please Note: While GA tickets are available, seating is limited and preferential seating will be provided to those who book the meal packages. GA Tickets allow for entry to the show, but you may be left standing.
