Chinese New Year: Make and code your own LED lantern

If you like the glow of a lovely lantern and electronics spark your interest, light-up your Chinese New Year celebrations with your own LED lantern creation.

During the spectacular Sydney Chinese New Year Festival from 27 January to 12 February, the Library will be celebrating the Year of the Rooster by putting on some fun festivities.

Join a master maker as they illuminate the art of LED lantern making. In this workshop, you'll decorate your own lantern shade, create a simple circuit and code a sensational light sequence by changing colours and formatting flashes.

You may choose a classic static combination with lights always on, or break it up with some blinking. Whatever your skill level, this workshop will lead you through, step-by-step. While the workshop is best suited for 12+, littler lantern lovers are welcome but will need parental supervision. A small $10 fee covers all the gear you'll need to produce your unique lantern and the best part is, when you're done, your lantern is yours to take home.

Bookings are essential as places are limited. Cost is $10 per person which covers the cost of all materials to build 1 lantern.
